On February 17, photos recorded leakage of tailings from the deposit basin of the miner Hydro Alunorte, the company and the state government denied any incident. The Evandro Chagas Institute released a report confirming the contamination in several areas of Barcarena. The daily lives of the local population was directly affected by yet another environmental disaster.
