“A good friend of ours was to get married. I had no idea what I should give her (...). So I thought: ’Well, I’m going to make a film about her wedding.” Circumstances were really peculiar. Her family’s house used to be the residence of President James Monroe. She was to marry the political representative of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front, the guerrilla organization from Salvador. We were confronted with the strange image of the residence where the Monroe Doctrine was written now hosting Salvador’s revolutionary movement against the US intervention.” (Robert Kramer)
