The Georgian language “possibly has the greatest variety of syllables of any known language; a wealth of synonyms and a syntactic sophistication more easily associated with the main world languages”. This was Donald Rayfield’s introduction to his translation of the traditional poem Mariam Kandelaki turns into images and sounds in this animated fresco, an expression of her country’s love for poetry. “My son did not face a gentle beast.”
