Eriberto Gualinga
Overview
Eriberto is the first Kichwa Amazonian filmmaker from the Indigenous community of Sarayaku to earn a degree in film from the University of the Arts in Ecuador. His documentaries are deeply committed to the struggle for the defense of his territory. He has produced several films about the resistance of Indigenous peoples against extractive industries.
His film Sachata Kishipichik Mani / I Am the Defender of the Forest (2003) won numerous awards across Latin America, including Best Documentary at the Anaconda Awards Festival in 2004. His film The Children of the Jaguar (2012) received the Best Documentary award at the National Geographic All Roads Film Festival. His first feature-length film is titled Helena of Sarayaku (2022).
