Adonis Kyrou

Overview

Adonis Kyrou was a Greek-born French film director, screenwriter, and critic, known for his work in surrealist cinema and film criticism. Born in Athens, he moved to Paris after World War II, where he became an active member of the surrealist movement and a close associate of filmmaker Luis Buñuel. Kyrou directed several films, including The Roundup (1965) and The Monk (1972), the latter co-written with Buñuel. He authored influential books such as Le Surréalisme au cinéma (1953) and Amour-érotisme et cinéma (1957), which explored the intersections of surrealism, eroticism, and film. Kyrou's work significantly impacted the study and appreciation of surrealist cinema. He passed away in Paris in 1985.
