Glen Payne

Overview

Glen Payne (1926–1999) was an American Southern gospel singer, best known as the lead vocalist of The Cathedral Quartet for over 35 years. Born in Texas, he began his career in 1944 with the Stamps-Baxter Quartet and in 1964 formed the Cathedral Quartet with George Younce. The group became a Southern Gospel staple, known for hits like "Step into The Water", "Boundless Love" and "He Made a Change". Payne died of liver cancer at 72 during the quartet’s farewell tour, leaving a significant legacy in the genre.
