Luís Cosme

Overview

Luiz Cosme (Porto Alegre, March 9, 1908 — Rio de Janeiro, July 13, 1965) was an important Brazilian musician. He was the brother of the visual artist and violinist Sotero Cosme. He began his musical studies at the age of eight at the Conservatory of the Institute of Fine Arts, studying under Assuero Garritano and Oscar Simm. He worked in theaters as a violinist during the silent film era. He received a scholarship to study at the Ohio Conservatory in the United States, perfecting his violin skills. There, he became concertmaster of the Cincinnati Conservatory Orchestra. After two years, he moved to Paris, where he remained briefly but came into contact with the Parisian musical avant-garde. He was one of the founders of the Brazilian Academy of Music, holding chair number 9 and directing the association's record library. In 1937, he married Zilda Cartier. (Wikipedia)
