Often credited as the reason for Studio Ghibli's strict "no cuts" policy for international releases of their works, Warriors of the Wind is a heavily-edited English version of Hayao Miyazaki's 1984 film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. In order to quicken the pacing, approximately 23 minutes of the original film are cut out in this version, resulting in a thoroughly simplified story. Much of the original cast of characters are also renamed, including Nausicaä, who is in this version called Princess Zandra.
