The flirtatious and bold prankster Gilbert Blythe returns to town. But he goes too far when he jokingly calls Anne "Carrots", and she responds by breaking her slate over his head. Anne's teacher makes her sit next to Gilbert as a punishment, so she decides to never go back there.
