Nariaki and Yoshinobu, who were ordered to stay at their estates by Ii Naosuke, continued their silent resistance. However, Ii was assassinated in the Sakuradamon Incident, and Nariaki died unexpectedly. Upon hearing the news of his father's death, Yoshinobu wailed.
