TO YEE MUI feels jealous when learning that KAM LING FUNG is supposed to be CHAN MUNG TAK.'s fiancee. CHAN explait1s that the engagement has been cancelled. The two lovers compromise and grow more fond of each other, but a grudge develops between MUI and UNG.

CHAN meets CHUK CHEN TZE again and the two talk over the past with delight.

One night, CHAN perchance overhears LAU WAH TUNG talking with FONG TONG KAN that they are working with the police to arrest MADAM TO and the bandits.

Knowing the rival's plot, CHAN makes use of LAU to beat HUNG TAI NGOK. Regaining his status, CHEUNG BIU appoints VAT DIM HUNG to be the keeper and CHAN to be the chief advisor who thus makes a reputation of himself.

Failing to suppress the bandits, the magistrate is fired. Losing an influence to hang on, FONG goes seek SMITH’s patronage.
