19th century Prague. Czech revivalists strive to shape Zdeňka, the unknown daughter of a pioneering journalist, into a national symbol. Defiantly independent, she falls for a Polish officer, risking her reputation as a traitor while torn between following her heart and the weight of nationalist expectations.
